Corona Virus (COVID-19) related funding

CARES Act Student Aid
On March 27, 2020, the President of the United States signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act into law. The CARES Act contains provisions for a Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). Institutions of higher education that receive HEERF funds agree to use at least 50% of their allocation to "provide students with emergency financial aid grants to help cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus." Patrick & Henry Community College’s total allocation of HEERF funding is $1,483,723. Of that, P&HCC has certified to the US Department of Education that it will use $741,862 (50%) for “the sole and exclusive purpose of providing emergency financial aid grants to students for their expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care expenses." Learn more about the CARES Act Student Aid

Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)
Unlike the CARES Act, the CRRSAA and ARPA require that institutions prioritize students with exceptional need, such as students who receive Pell Grants, in awarding financial aid grants to students. However, students do not need to be Pell recipients or students who are eligible for Pell grants in order to qualify for a grant. In addition, the CRRSAA and ARPA explicitly provide that financial aid grants to students may be provided to students exclusively enrolled in distance education. Learn more about CRRSAA
