How to Graduate


Congratulations! We are proud of your accomplishments and you should be, too. Earning a degree or certificate takes much determination and dedication.
In order to graduate and receive an associate degree, certificate, or career studies certificate at Patrick & Henry Community College, a student must complete all of the following:

o Be admitted to an academic program of study
o Fulfill all of the course and credit hour requirements of the program set forth in the college catalog
o Complete at least 25% of program requirements for an associate degree, diploma, and certificate at P&HCC
o Demonstrate computer competency skills as defined by the college
o Be recommended for graduation by your program advisor
o Earn a grade point average of at least 2.0 in all courses attempted that are applicable toward graduation in the program of study
o File an application for graduation through myP&HCC by the established deadline for each term (see deadline dates below)
o Resolve all financial obligations to the college and return all library and other college materials

Application open and close dates
Summer term: Application opens on May 16 – closes on (July 31)
Fall term: Application opens (August 1) – Application closes (November 30)
Spring term: Application opens (December 1) – Application closes (March 31)
If you miss the deadline to apply, you can submit an application for the following term.

Application Process

In order to graduate, a graduation application must be submitted. It can be completed by logging into myP&HCC and doing the following:
o Click SIS
o Click Student Center
o Click Apply for Graduation
o Print confirmation for your records

After Application Submission

The registrar evaluates the application to determine if all program requirements are satisfied. A graduation evaluation letter is mailed to the student indicating the remaining program requirements in order to receive the credential for which the student has applied.

Receiving the Degree/Certificate

Successful candidates, please note, credentials are not mailed from the college but from a third-party vendor called Parchment. You will receive an email to claim your digital credential prior to delivery of your hard copy via US mail. Please ensure your email and mailing address are current. Mailings can take up to three weeks after processing.

Ordering a Replacement Degree/Certificate

Diplomas are reissued upon the graduate’s request provided there is no outstanding debt to the college. There is a $10 fee for each replacement degree and/or certificate payable to the Business Office. If you wish to order a replacement degree, complete the Replacement Degree Order Form, then make payment arrangements with the Business Office. Upon receiving your receipt, the request will be processed.

Receiving Multiple Degrees/Certificates

Students may be eligible to graduate with multiple degrees and certificates if the contents of the curricula differ from one another by at least 25% and it is not in the same curriculum.

Honors Notated
Students completing an associate degree or certificate (excluding career studies) are eligible for honors as follows:

Cumulative GPA of 3.2 - cum laude Cumulative GPA of 3.5 - magna cum laude Cumulative GPA of 3.8 - summa cum laude
Graduation honors are reflected on the student’s academic transcript and diploma.

Commencement Ceremony

P&HCC hosts a commencement ceremony annually in May. The commencement ceremony is open to eligible candidates that have completed all program requirements by the ceremony date. Commencement details are emailed to eligible candidates beginning April 1st.
