Rural Virginia Horseshoe Initiative (RVHI)


The Rural Virginia Horseshoe Initiative [RVHI]

RVHI targets individuals who have passed the GED Test or another Virginia Board of Education approved equivalency exam indicating college and career readiness. The $1,000 incentives funded through RVHI will be prioritized to those individuals who passed the GED Tests, or other approved exams, as determined by the colleges, to be successful in postsecondary education and training.

Awards are only made to an individual upon successful completion of the GED Test, or other Virginia Board of Education approved high school equivalency, and who are in good standing with the community college. No more than $1,000 may be awarded per recipient from this program during their enrollment at any community college. Issuance of funds may be spread out over no more than four years from the date of the recipient’s acceptance into the college.

The funds may be used to assist with tuition or course registration fees for non-credit courses if other financial aid is unavailable.
