Tutors are available in subject areas related to mathematics, English, and writing assignments and are selected based on the following criteria:

  1. Written recommendation from faculty member in every subject area for which student intends to tutor

  2. Grade of "A" or "B" in every course for which student intends to tutor

  3. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  4. Express genuine concern for all PHCC students

All tutors participate in a 30-hour training after which they are eligible for certification through the College Reading and Learning Association prior to the fall semester. The training is intense and designed to update tutors with new information and ideas.
Objectives of the tutor program:

  • Maintain tutors who are well trained and informed of changing trends in the field of tutoring and sensitive to the needs of students

  • Provide quality tutoring to fulfill the needs of PHCC students

  • Support students to become successful and self-sufficient

  • Provide tutoring and study skills to strengthen areas in which student need assistance
