PHCC students named to all-state PTK team

Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) students Wesley Allen (second from right) and Caroline Williams (third from right) were named to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) 2015 All-Virginian Academic Team. The awards ceremony was held on April 22 at the DoubleTree Hilton in Richmond. Speakers included Anne Holton (second from left), Virginia’s secretary of education, and Dr. Glenn DuBois (right), chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges. Also pictured is Christopher Parker, vice president of institutional advancement at PHCC. PTK is an international honor society for two-year colleges. Virginia is one of 37 states participating in the All-State Academic Teams Program, introduced in 1994 as a way to provide scholastic recognition to PTK members and to promote excellence of two-year colleges.
Allen said about his experience, "It was a real privilege to be honored by such a distinguished honor society. I never thought community colleges were on this level. PTK has definitely helped me connect with people more, and it's taught me how to network. It's also helped me solidify my leadership skills, and reach out more to my community."
Williams added, "I had a wonderful time being able to meet so many people advancing their goals and dreams thanks to their education. My experiences in PTK have helped me so much with my future. This organization has been like a motivator for me to keep going. I'm so happy to be an ambassador for one of the largest honor societies in the world."
