PHCC recognized at the VCCA Showcase Awards

Recently, the VCCA, a statewide association for employees of community colleges, recognized outstanding members at their 2015 Conference in Hampton, Virginia. This year, Staples and Tatum were recognized and represented PHCC’s faculty and staff to the state.

Tatum is one of PHCC’s College Success Coaches and a PHCC alumna.  She started working part time for PHCC in 2007 and has been employed full time since 2012.

Staples, who was named PHCC’s first Poet Laureate this year, is an Associate Professor of English at PHCC and is PHCC alumna also. She has been teaching at PHCC since 2002.  While attending the VCCA conference this year she not only accepted the faculty showcase Award, but she was also elected secretary of the Faculty and Instructional Affairs Commission of the VCCS.

These women were nominated by their peers to receive the 2015 VCCA Showcase awards for their excellent and continual service to PHCC and the students. They both expressed how grateful they were to be honored for doing what they love to do – helping students.

"I love teaching and helping students realize their potential. It's an honor to be selected as the PHCC Faculty Showcase Award recipient," stated Staples.

“It is nice to be recognized for something that you enjoy doing,” echoed Tatum
