PHCC Names 2017 Distinguished Alumni

 The Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) Foundation will honor 12 PHCC graduates as distinguished alumni on April 21. The Distinguished Alumni Awards, which will be presented at Chatmoss Country Club, recognize PHCC graduates for professional and community achievements and success.

     This year’s award recipients are: Kelly Adkins, Teddy Anderson, Lori Handy, Jennifer Hollyfield, Ann Huffman, Perry Hughes, Susan Martin, Scott Prillaman, Sammie Seaton, Jan Turner, Shirley Dalton Wells, Roberta Wright.

     Adkins is a registered nurse and the Director of the Telemetry Unit at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She actively participates in heart walks and with the Kiwanis Club of Bassett.

     Martin is a nurse practitioner and hospitalist at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount. She volunteers with the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross and participates in the Relay for Life and Brenda Riggins Memorial Blood Drives.

     Anderson is the Fire Chief for the City of Martinsville Fire Department. He also serves as an adjunct instructor at PHCC and an instructor with Patrick County Emergency Services, Franklin and Henry County Public Safety, and Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy.

     Seaton is the Security Supervisor at PHCC. He served our country as a Security Specialist and Honor Guardsman in the United States Air Force and is an active associate member of First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville and the PHCC CERT team.

     Turner is a paraprofessional at Axton Elementary School. She is an active member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church as a vacation Bible school craft teacher, Intersection Service nursery worker, flower committee member and monthly community free meal organizer and also serves as an instructor with the Basket Weavers Guild and volunteers at Dyers Store Fire Department. 

     Handy is a biology teacher with Martinsville City Public Schools and science department chair at Martinsville High School. She is an active member of Crosspoint Church and serves as an advisor with the local chapter of Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) and has volunteered with the West Piedmont AIDS Taskforce and the American Red Cross.

     Hollyfield is the chief transfer officer and transfer counselor and coach with Student Support Services at PHCC. She is an active member of Stone Memorial Christian Church in Collinsville and is a pianist for worship services.

     Huffman is a business administrator at Martinsville Smiles, PLLC dental practice in Martinsville. She also serves as the secretary and treasurer of the Piedmont Virginia Dental Health Foundation and has volunteered with the American Cancer Society and American Red Cross.

     Hughes is the Director of Workforce Development at Wytheville Community College in Wytheville. He is also the chairman of the Workforce Development Services Advisory Council Credential Policy and Tracking Committee and a strong supporter of youth activities and athletics in Patrick County and an active member of Middle Cross Missionary Baptist Church.

     Prillaman is the Vice President of Casegood Operations at Hooker Furniture Company in Martinsville. He serves on the PHCC Foundation Board of Directors and also on the Southern Virginia Recreational Facilities Authority Board and has served as a former president and campaign chairman for the United Way of Martinsville and Henry County.

     Wells is the Director of Early Childhood Education at STEP, Inc. in Franklin and Patrick counties. She is an active member of Mount Sinai Holiness Church in Axton as a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school Director and teacher and the church finance member and bookkeeper.

     Wright is the Facilities Director at PHCC. She is an active member of Granbery United Methodist Church and the PHCC CERT team and volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America, Infinity Acres, and the Parent Teacher Organizations in Henry County Public Schools. 

     Individual tickets for the dinner and award ceremony are $35, patron tables for eight are $250, and benefactor tables for eight are $500. Tickets for PHCC students are $30.
