PHCC welcomes area elementary and middle school students from across Martinsville and Henry County for the First Annual Education Day on Friday, October 13. From kindergarten to seventh grade, area students will have an on-court, interactive experience with college athletes and coaches before watching a college basketball game.
“Our aim is to help youth get excited about college," said PHCC Athletic Director Brian Henderson. “By providing them a chance to meet college athletes, see players in action, and have a college-campus experience, we hope to pass on a little of our enthusiasm for higher education and to show them the opportunities they have for an exciting future.”
Education Day begins with a pre-game, on-court meet and greet with PHCC’s college athletes. Students will then get to attend two college basketball games back to back free of charge as both the men and women Patriots face-off against Thomas Nelson Community College. Finally, students will take home Education Day packets overflowing with activities, goodies, and personal notes from PHCC coaches. Lunch will be provided during the game.
The entire event is free of charge thanks to co-sponsors Alliance for Excellence and Smart Beginnings of the United Way of Henry County/Martinsville along with the PHCC Athletic Department. Students will meet at Stone Hall Gymnasium at 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required.
