Items donated include a Heil 95 percent efficient gas furnace, Heil variable speed air handler, Heil 14 seer heat pump and a Scotsman touch-free ice machine. Michael Bryant, a PHCC associate professor in HVAC and building trades, said the college is “extremely fortunate to have business partners like Southern Refrigeration Corporation. Our students will benefit directly from items donated and they will be used as trainers in our lab.”

Glenn Light, in sales at Southern Refrigeration Corporation, said as a business, they want to encourage the program.

“We selected equipment that students would routinely see in the field,” he said. “There’s always a need for qualified technicians and installers, so we’re happy to partner with our local schools and training programs.”

Bryant said within the last year, 11 students that graduated or received program certifications from PHCC’s program are now employed in the HVAC field.

“We are very proud of our industry advisory members’ support as they are extremely valuable to our programs,” Bryant said. “Their guidance of the curriculum and equipment contributions keep our students studying up-to-date content on state-of-the-art equipment. They also get the benefit of hiring the best of graduating students with their preferred training.”
